Overview of Fuzhou Strait Olympic Sports Center
Strait Olympic Sports Center is located in Middle Nantai Island in Cangshan district, Fuzhou city, a convenient location with access to the second ring road in east and the third ring expressway in north.
The Center is mainly divided into Stadium, Gymnasium, Natatorium, Indoor Tennis Stadium, as well as Office Buildings and Outdoors Facilities, covering an area of 1100 mu (about 733,333 square meters). The Grade-A sports complex can be regarded as Fuzhou's largest complex for Olympic sports and commercial purpose, where sport competitions, sports trainings, fitness exercises, entertainments and shopping are provided. Thus, the Strait Olympic sport Center stands as the new landmark in Fuzhou City.
The design of Strait Olympic Centers was inspired by the combination of Fujian features and the core element - "sea" as a way to highlight city's spirit - "inclusivity", through which the sea attains greatness. The architecture of Gymnasium, Natatorium, and Indoor Tennis Stadium appears like a sea gull flying away with a conch in mouth, or simply like three "drips". The "drips" and "shell" (the Stadium) support each other, shinning as a bright pearl in west Taiwan Strait.
The principle of City's Overall Plan directs the center's construction - "scientific construction in the light of development." It means that the center is not only built for China's first National Youth Games, but also for citizens’ fitness. The center will be commercialized and opened to the public after Games. This, to some extent, improves Fuzhou's public facilities and strengthens its ability to host the sports events. The Center also provides a stage for people across Taiwan Strait to exchange sport culture by competitions.
